Important announcements: Change to the Academic Year and Mailing List for JASAS members

Dear Members of the Japan Association for South Asian Studies,
We are always very grateful for your continued support.
We have two important announcements to share with you at this time.

Change to the Academic Year

At the General Assembly held on 23 September 2025, the following points were approved, resulting in a change to the Society’s fiscal year.
The fiscal year will now commence in April, moving from the previous October start date.
Consequently, the current academic year (October 2025 to March 2027) will span one and a half years. However, to facilitate accounting procedures at universities and other institutions, a six-month free period will be provided when paying membership fees.
The current fiscal year (the year commencing October 2025) shall run from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026.
The period from 1st October 2026 to 31st March 2027 shall be free of charge, with the changeover occurring on 1st April 2027. Payment shall then be due for the period up to the end of March the following year.
New members joining from October 2026 onwards shall pay for one full year.
Membership fees for the 2027 fiscal year will be collected from April 2027 onwards.
Furthermore, the Annual Conference will be held in late September as usual, while the General Assembly will be held in March to align with the Society’s fiscal year change.
The next General Assembly will be in March 2027.

Our mailing list (jasasnet2016[at]googlegroups.com (Replace “[ at ]” with “@”)) is a platform where any member can share South Asian Studies-related lectures and events.
However, this mailing list is not directly linked to SMOOSY, the membership management service used by the Japan Society for South Asian Studies. Therefore, if you change your email address on SMOOSY, please notify the Kyoto Tsushinsha (jasas-db[at]kyoto-info.com  (Replace “[ at ]” with “@”)), which handles the society’s administration, of your new email address.
